Singapore, September 18, 2026 — Global payment service provider Obita was represented by its Head of Partnership, Windham ZHANG, at FinTech Week Singapore 2026, organized by The People Events. Windham joined the panel discussion “The Next Era of Cross-Border Payments: Instant, Interoperable & Intelligent,” where he exchanged views with industry peers on key topics including multi-currency settlement, end-to-end instant payments, and intelligent payment routing.

Held from September 16 to 17, this year’s FinTech Week Singapore focused on frontier areas including cross-border payments, digital finance, artificial intelligence, and open finance. The event brought together global fintech companies, financial institutions, investors, and industry technology experts for in-depth discussions on the next generation of cross-border financial services.

Cross-Border Payments Need More Than Speed

In the discussion on stablecoins and instant payments, Windham noted that stablecoins may have a more profound impact on enterprise treasury management than on the payment process itself. As an emerging settlement instrument and an additional source of liquidity, stablecoins can extend traditional banking capabilities in certain cross-border scenarios. Their potential value lies in reducing the need for enterprises to pre-position liquidity across multiple markets while enabling round-the-clock fund movement.

When selecting payment routes across different markets, enterprises are also taking a more flexible approach, considering factors such as cost, liquidity, speed, regional coverage, and compliance requirements to identify the most suitable payment channels.

Windham also pointed out that beyond faster transfers, enterprises now have broader expectations for the cross-border payment experience. Clear transaction timelines, trackable payment status, predictable costs, and stable cross-regional fund movement have become key criteria when evaluating cross-border payment services. Together with speed, these factors form an important foundation for the overall payment experience.

Smarter Routing Across Global Markets

As global payment systems continue to expand, intelligent routing is opening up new possibilities for cross-border payments. Windham noted that interoperability across payment networks provides the foundation for intelligent routing, while its ultimate value lies in delivering a more consistent and unified payment experience for enterprises.

Businesses can focus on defining their payment objectives, currency requirements, timing, and cost expectations, while payment infrastructure evaluates market coverage, liquidity conditions, channel stability, and compliance requirements to match transactions with more suitable payment routes.

This direction is also aligned with Obita’s approach to building global payment infrastructure. As a global payment service provider for enterprises, Obita is developing Obita Mesh, its global open payment network, to connect local payment networks, currencies, and collection and payout channels across different markets, providing businesses with more unified support for global collections, cross-border payments, and related treasury operations.
