Hong Kong, September 10, 2026 — During the 11th Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong, Mr. Beifang JI, General Manager of Obita Hong Kong, was invited to attend the concurrent event “Entering Hong Kong — Hong Kong Through the Eyes of Globalizing Enterprises”, where he joined the panel discussion “Going Global via Hong Kong: Connecting with New Belt and Road Opportunities.”

The event was guided by the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT Shanghai) and the Chamber of International Commerce Shanghai (COIC Shanghai), and organized by the Hong Kong Representative Office of the Shanghai International Chamber of Commerce and the Shanghai International Arbitration (Hong Kong) Center. Guests from business, payments, technology, and professional services exchanged views on Hong Kong’s platform value, enterprise payments, treasury operations and compliance, as well as market-entry strategies across Belt and Road markets.

Global Expansion Accelerates, Strengthening Hong Kong’s Role as an Operating Hub

Chinese enterprises are expanding into an increasingly diverse range of overseas markets. According to data from the General Administration of Customs of China, during the first seven months of 2026, China’s trade with Belt and Road partner countries reached RMB 15.36 trillion, up 15.5% year-on-year and accounting for approximately 51% of China’s total goods trade during the same period. Trade between China and ASEAN reached RMB 5.14 trillion, up 20% year-on-year.

Meanwhile, a survey on the global expansion of Mainland Chinese enterprises released by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in August 2026 found that 94% of respondents intended to expand into Belt and Road countries and regions, while 83% selected Hong Kong as a service platform to support their overseas expansion. This year’s 11th Belt and Road Summit also introduced a dedicated “Going Global” section for the first time, placing greater focus on global business expansion and Hong Kong’s role in connecting financial, professional service, and international resources.

Businesses Can Iterate. Payments, Treasury and Compliance Need to Come First.

During the panel, Mr. Ji noted that Hong Kong has the potential to serve as a global operating hub for enterprises. Turning that geographic and institutional advantage into real global operating capability, however, requires companies to establish the right foundations early — including cross-border fund flows, compliant payment and treasury management systems, and effective coordination with local partners overseas.

He noted that businesses can refine their products, channels, and commercial models as they enter new markets, while cross-border collections and payments, treasury governance, and risk boundaries need to be established from the outset.

Discussing market-entry strategies across Belt and Road markets, Mr. Ji suggested that companies should determine the pace of expansion based on the nature of their business. Standardized B2B trade models can often begin with smaller-scale market validation, while businesses requiring deeper localization may benefit from phased expansion alongside local partners. Whichever approach is taken, the underlying treasury and payment framework needs to evolve in step with business growth.

As a global payment service provider for enterprises, Obita is building Obita Mesh, its global open payment network, to connect payment rails, currencies, and channels across markets and provide businesses with more unified support for global payments and treasury operations. As more enterprises expand across Belt and Road and other international markets, cross-market financial infrastructure is becoming an increasingly important foundation for sustainable global operations.
