Obita Launches Local Collection Across Four Southeast Asian Markets
Hong Kong, August 31, 2026 — Global payment service provider Obita announced the further expansion of its payment capabilities in Southeast Asia, with local currency collection now live in Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Businesses can receive Thai baht (THB), Philippine peso (PHP), Malaysian ringgit (MYR), and Indonesian rupiah (IDR) through local bank transfers. Local currency funds can be received in real time and, based on business needs, converted and settled into USD on a near-real-time basis.
The addition of these four local currencies creates key Southeast Asian entry points within Obita’s global collection network, enabling eligible businesses operating in the region to connect local payment environments more efficiently with subsequent cross-border settlement and global business operations.

Southeast Asia’s Economy Continues to Grow as Regional Payment Connectivity Accelerates
Southeast Asia has become one of the world’s most dynamic regions for economic growth. Supported by a large internet user base, active cross-border e-commerce, and a growing online trade ecosystem, commercial activity across the region continues to expand. According to Invest ASEAN, ASEAN is home to nearly 700 million people and an economy of approximately USD 3.8 trillion. Trade, investment, and regional participation in global supply chains continue to expand, driving higher levels of business collaboration, cross-border transactions, and fund flows across the region.
Alongside this commercial growth, payment systems across Southeast Asia are becoming increasingly interconnected.
At the 2025 ASEAN Finance Ministers’ and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting, cross-border payment connectivity was identified as a key priority for regional financial integration. ASEAN continues to expand cross-border payment linkages, promote cross-border QR payments and P2P transfers, and advance its Local Currency Transaction Framework to encourage the use of local currencies in regional trade and investment and reduce friction in cross-border fund flows.
This policy direction is already translating into tangible progress in regional payment infrastructure. In the first half of 2025 alone, cross-border QR transaction volume across ASEAN increased by 190% year on year, while cross-border P2P fund transfer volume grew by 41%. By December 2025, ASEAN had established 26 bilateral cross-border QR payment linkages.
Four Local Currencies Add Four Regional Entry Points to a Global Fund Network
Obita’s newly launched local collection capabilities across the four Southeast Asian markets are designed around the operational needs of businesses expanding across multiple markets, providing a more flexible local fund management framework that can better connect with global operations.
For example, businesses operating across multiple Southeast Asian markets can receive local revenues from Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia, and then arrange subsequent conversion, settlement, and payout activities according to their broader operational needs. This enables distributed regional cash flows to be incorporated more effectively into a company’s global fund operations.
By connecting local currency collection with subsequent cross-border settlement, this model creates a stronger link between regional business activities and global fund flows. It also reflects the broader value of integrating local payment capabilities into the global operations of enterprises.
